Aparthotel, Queen Street, Belfast

Irwin Acoustics is currently undertaking acoustic commissioning tests at the new Aparthotel, Queen Street, Belfast.  Tests are being undertaken to show compliance with both the Building Regulations and the Hotel operators own acoustic specification.  Irwin Acoustics completed the original acoustic design in 2021 and 2022 with regards to internal and external sound insulation requirements.

Skelton Grange Waste-to-Energy, Leeds

We are working with the design team in assessing the proposed Skelton Grange Waste-to-Energy facility with regards to the available BREEAM credits for acoustic design.  Once completed, it will process up to 410,000 tonnes of residual waste to generate 49MW of renewable baseload electricity annually.  The BREEAM assessment involves assessing the Administration Building acoustic design and the prediction of noise emissions to surrounding noise sensitive locations.

Trinity Street Carpark Redevelopment

We are currently working as part of the design team on the redevelopment of the Trinity Street Car Park on Dublin’s Trinity Street into a high quality nine-storey office building.  The existing external noise environment has been surveyed to determine facade sound insulation requirements.  Internal sound insulation and rooms acoustic specifications have been developed in conjunction with the architects.

CastleCourt Belfast - Family Entertainment Centre

We are currently working as part of the design team on the 'repurposing' of the old CastleCourt Belfast Debenham's retail unit into Cinemas and Family Entertainment Centre.  These new tenancies create higher noise levels than typical retail operators.  Noise transfer between the various areas has to be assessed and suitable constructions installed.

Odyssey Belfast - Cineworld Opens

We are pleased to be part of the Odyssey Belfast redevelopment design team which includes the new Cineworld multiplex.  The new cinema features 13 state-of-the-art screens, including an IMAX Laser auditorium, multi-sensory 4DX extreme cinema experience and ScreenX with a 270-degree wrap-around screen.

Ulster Orchestra, Belfast

As part of the ongoing feasibility study to convert Townsend Street Church, Belfast into their main 'home', Ulster Orchestra have undertaken mock-up testing with elevated platform installed above seating pews to allow orchestra trials.  Temporary sound absorption was also installed around the room perimeter.  Testing will continue in early 2022 with the seating pews removed to allow orchestra to be located at ground level.

D&B Schools Framework (Lots 3 - 5)

Following on from our work on previous School Lots, Irwin Acoustics have again teamed up with OHLA / O'Hare & McGovern JV on their tender submission for the Dept of Education & Skills Schools Design & Build Framework Lots 3 - 5.  These lots comprise ten new build schools across eight sites.  Final Tender submission will be submitted next month.

Bellurgan National School, Louth

We are pleased to be working with van Djik Architects on the proposed new extension to Bellurgan National School, Co. Louth.   The extension comprises a Special Needs Unit and associated ancillary areas.  We will assist the architects in the design of the new extension which and have also undertaken a survey of the existing school to 'benchmark' the acoustic performance.

Bowling Alley, Odyssey Belfast

Irwin Acoustics busy testing at the Odyssey, Belfast.  The existing bowling alley sits below cinemas and impact noise transfer is a major acoustic design issue.  Over 50 balls and several strikes later we had all the noise measurements we need....Sometimes this job has its perks!

Lots Road Power Station, Chelsea

Irwin Acoustics is working with McMullen Facades on the acoustic design of new facade systems on the Lots Road Power Station scheme in Chelsea, London.  The decommissioned power station is being redeveloped as high quality residential accommodation.  Compliance with the stringent facade acoustic requirements has been shown through a mixture of laboratory testing and acoustic predictions.

Ulster Orchestra, Belfast

Irwin Acoustics is working with Ulster Orchestra on a feasibility study to convert Townsend Street Church, Belfast into their main 'home' and orchestra rehearsal space.  Acoustic modelling is underway to assess the suitability of the space for a full 70 piece orchestra.  Early indications show that the building has great potential.

St Eunans College, Letterkenny

Irwin Acoustics has issued Stage 2A Acoustic Design Report for St Eunans' College, Letterkenny.  A section of this 1000 pupil scheme comprises the conversion of listed 'protected structure' castle into school accommodation.  This has required the negotiation of bespoke acoustic criteria with the Department of Education & Skills.

Odyssey Complex, Belfast

Construction stage is well advanced on refurbishment of the Belfast Odyssey Leisure Complex.  Irwin Acoustics are reviewing sound insulation design to ensure new unit tenancies do not adversely impact on the adjacent Cinema Complex (including IMAX screen) and SSE Live Music Arena.

PPP Social Housing - Bundle 2

Acoustic commissioning in under way at various sites forming the PPP Housing Bundle 2 scheme.  Irwin Acoustics worked with the winning tenderer Torc Housing Partnership at Tender stage in 2019 right through to detailed design & construction stages during 2020/21.  The scheme comprises 465 new dwellings constructed over eight sites throughout Ireland.

D&B Schools Framework (Lots 1 & 2)

We worked as part of the OHL Ireland Construction / O'Hare & McGovern JV on their tender submission for the Dept of Education & Skills Schools Design & Build Framework.  Lots 1 and 2 were submitted jointly and comprised new build schools across eight sites.  The majority of sites are located in Dublin and several are exposed to significant traffic noise that required assessment and mitigation.
